How phones molded us in being antisocial !

I’m going to talk about 2 things
  • ) The rise of a culture of availability, and
  • ) A request
In recent times we have seen a rise in the availability being driven by mobile device proliferation, globally across all social strata. And because of this proliferation, there’s an expectation of availability, and with that comes another point which is 'obligation' – an obligation to that availability. Harvard report states that the time spent by folks in using phones in a ‘furtive manner’ is thrice of the time of the actual usage of the phone required.

People are under the influence of checking the notifications even if there’s none.

There are a lot of scenarios in support of the above statement:-
  • In a group, there’s always a person waiting for the others to look away and then quickly sneaking the device, look around might be happening right now:)
  • During dinner or family time people scroll through their phone in a manner like they don’t care abt the person sitting in front of them.

  • People are so inclined to their phone that even during a deep convo they just start to browse it, which gives out an expression "let us find someone else, we give a damn about!"
  • Even in cinemas, when there's a bummer people get engaged with their phones
  • This is how sound of one hand clapped looks like

And the list goes on...

Can we conclude that -

“people in front aren't important as literally anything that could come to them through that device”.

Humans always try to fabricate moments that seem to be less interesting at that instance than the story they are going to tell about later.

In this millennial time people are losing their identities and have started to believe in the concept of shared narratives. The stories that they tell, that they push-out become who they are. People aren't simply projecting identity they are creating it.

We are creating the tech that is going to create the new shared experience which will create the new world and so my request is

"let’s make technology that makes people more human and not less".
